Granite is an igneous rock formed from solidified magma.  Strength and durability are two of the many great characteristics of granite.  Granite is also scratch proof and heat resistant, making it an excellent material for countertops as it can easily withstand hot pots and knife blades.  The look of granite is heavy, permanent, and substantial, which is why it adds such value to homes.  The texture of this natural stone varies, depending on the size and amount of crystals within the rock.  It is also found in a huge variety of colors, some include white, light golden brown, charcoal grey, black, and green.  With so much to choose from, you cannot go wrong with granite, and are certain to find a perfect match for your space!

Marble is formed from limestone, and is truly a unique stone.  It has been used for hundreds of years in palaces, temples, and for sculptures.  One excellent example of the beauty of marble is the Taj Mahal.  It's elegance adds a look of luxury and richness.  Marble can be applied to floors, walls, countertops, fireplaces, tub and shower surrounds, and other areas.  The colors vary from white to brown to black, with varieties of greens and pinks also.  Marble's one of a kind look comes from the veins and swirls that are within the rock.  No two pieces are exactly alike, ensuring that you will have a custom look, no matter where you apply it!

Quartz, a crystallin mineral, is found in great abundance on the earth, and is the most mineral-based form on our planet, besides water.  Amounts of quartz even help make up other natural stones, like granite and sandstone.  It is naturally hard and extremely durable.  It has no holes, cracks, or pores, and is scratch resistant.  For these reasons it is a sought after material for countertops since it is safe and easy to clean.  This stone gives you a more consistent look, as it has slightlly less variation than the other natural stones.  Colors of quartz vary tremendously, making it easy to find the perfect shade for your project.  Quartz is easy to maintain and will be a wonderful surface to enjoy for a lifetime!

Travertine is also formed from limestone.  It is special because it has small holes and pits throughout the stone that add an aged asthetic and gives it unique character.  It has a very warm and soothing look to it because of the earthy tones it is usually found in.  Travertine ranges from light cream and tan to deep mocha and golden brown.  Once installed, travertine can be honed and filled, meaning that the holes within the stone are filled with grout, giving it a more finsihed look.  Popular uses for travertine are backsplashes, floors, and tub and shower surrounds/walls.  This beautiful stone also looks great applied in a mosaic tile, as it provides great variation.  Travertine is sure to enhance your home with it's natural beauty and exceptional texture!

Slate is made from shale and clay and is another natural stone with a very earthy look.  It has layers of texture that add depth and richness to the stone.  Slate works well as a flooring material, both indoors and out.  It is also very beautiful when applied as a backsplash or wall covering.  The most common color of slate is grey, but it is rarely solid.  The stone has veins and lines of purple, pink, blue and green throughout it, adding even more visual interest.  Surfaces finished in slate have distinctive charm and will provide lifelong enjoyment!
